Fulfilling a Growingworkforce

Education and training that leads to a job, and to a good job. Having a skill set that employers seek and that they need. This is what the University of Alaska provides to our students.

Preparing our students to meet and fulfill Alaska’s growing workforce demands is essential to our mission. We strive to position our graduates at the head of the job market. We must create and support the educational and training programs that transform students into sought-after job candidates.

Candidates in demand

The need for health care combined with a skilled workforce shortage affects all Alaskans, not just in Anchorage but across our state. And we believe the best candidates to meet these workforce demands are Alaskans. As we train and prepare our students to provide health care, program support is critical. Program support creates more seats in the classroom for Alaska students to fill.

Likewise, UAA’s College of Engineering is committed to producing cutting-edge graduates ready to energize the state’s growing engineering community. Located near all major Alaska employers of engineering, computer science and project management talent, over half of job-seeking College of Engineering students secure jobs before graduation.

At UAA, we want the abundance of jobs in health care, engineering, science, business and other in-demand professions in Alaska to be filled by our graduates. We believe in our graduates, and we believe in Alaska.

Through our eCampus, we offer dozens of fully online programs that allow students to pursue their education on their own schedule. Through our robust student support services, we help students define and realize their goals.

Our School of Education’s Alaska Indigenous Teacher Initiatives, such as the Alaska Indigenous Teach Corp and Sustaining Indigenous Local Knowledge, Arts and Teaching project (SILKAT), strive to fill the need for Indigenous teachers. SOE prepares all students to be the best educators for our culturally and geographically distinct state and, through partner districts, provides internships in diverse schools throughout the state.

At UAF, we are creating broad paths to education. We are helping dreams turn into reality. We are for Alaska.

Equipping the workforce

Preparing our students to meet and fulfill Alaska’s growing workforce demands is essential to our mission at UAS. To do so, we must partner with industry and regulatory agencies to forecast tomorrow’s needs today. We must create and support the educational and training programs that transform students into sought-after job candidates. By providing programs in line with our state’s key industries, the School of Career Education is doing just that.

One area is Fisheries Technology. We address the workforce shortage of fisheries technicians and by offering a distance-learning curriculum. Students can learn from anywhere on their schedule.
